Hey Star Wars Fans!
Matmata Tunisia was the location for the infamous cantina scenes. A unique feature of the area is that the houses (named "troglodyte dwellings" after the Tunisian cave people who still live there) were dug out of the earth in an attempt to protect the inhabitants from the oppressive heat and also to hide from enemies. In other areas residents live in adobe structures designed as fortified granaries which resemble the pueblos in the southwestern United States.
The ruins of a city named Dougga or Thugga which was a Roman capital are found in Tunisia. Our diorama is not of "Dougga" dwellings as those would be Roman, not really Tunisian and would look something like this:
